Yes, contact your local Authority and ask for details, it will depend on the circumstances and the Authority may 'means test 'the 70 year old. You have lost nothing in trying, it is only a phone call to Social Services/Housing Needs to start.

if you have a local "Help the Aged" or Help the Elderly society in your area then they can help. If you try your phone book they should be listed.
if not then your local Dept of Health & Social Services will have contacts for you.
You can usually get a grant for a shower to be installed instead, with a seat etc for the elderly. or sometimes they will fit a bath chair lift. the elderly or disabled person sits in the sling pushes a "lift" style button and gets raised up then lowered into the water. i have seen these in use as i worked in a home for the elderly for a while as a carer.
i hope this helps. make sure u find out if u r due help with the costs as they can be quite expensive.
good luck in your search and i wish u well in 2007 xx

Call a reputable contractor in your area. They should be able to show you a few things that you can do to accomodate a handicapped person. You might be able to put in a standing shower in the existing bathroom and thus avoid tearing out a bathtub. A less costly alternative would be to purchase a 'shower chair' from your local drug store or medical supply store. In this way the person only has to sit down in the tub and someone can assist with the legs. They run about $40. in the midwest of the USA.

i dont know if you will find any agencies that will go to that extent but you can try hospice care, visiting nurses, etc and check out medicad services. there are things that can be done to help with the bath that you can buy or possibly given from medicare. stores have bath chairs that the person sits in instead of having to stand long enough to take a shower and there is also hand rails that can be installed. your best bet is to call this elderly persons medicare and find out what help is available. also your local hospital and the persons doctor. if you do enough research the help is out there.

you or whoever should talk to her doctor and try to get her/him a visiting nurse to come in to give her/him a bath or just to help out for a couple of hours, it could be done if this person has masshealth or medicaid. Or depending on the residency can be plced in a handicapp unit with handles on the bath tub and a lower tub. My grandma just move into a handicapp unit like this but, she is ok getting out of the tub on her own she doesn't have a visiting nurse, she is 75.

Not in America, we do have a limit to how much we can steal from the tax payers. My mother is over 70 and she gets around quite well. You can however put bars on the bath walls to for the person to hold on to. They are quite affordable and you can buy them at any hardware.

I know the VA ....USED....to do that sort of thing for vets... But if they get social security they are probably expected to do it themselves...go crazy on that big ol check..If they are very poor there is Christmas in April in most areas you can apply for...Ask at the senior citizens center close to you.

DEPENDING WHERE YOU LIVE YOU CAN CONTACT A HOSPITAL AND SEE IF THEY HAVE ANY PROGRAMS WHERE A NURSE WILL COME IN AND HELP WITH THE BATH. WE HAVE A GROUP IN IL . CALLED PLOWS FOR THE ELDERS, AND THEY GO BY HOW MUCH THAT ELDER MAKES, IT COULD BE 5 DOLLARS A MONTH. AND THE STATE TAKES THE REST. THEY WILL HELP HER WITH EVERYTHING. I HAVE THAT FOR MY MOM WHO'S 93 YEARS OLD. SHE COMES ONCE A WEEK,
