Bonds may very well pass Hank Aaron's total of 755 home runs but as far as breaking any records, Aaron will still hold the record. Notice I said pass, not break. The fact that Bud Segil refused to address this situation tells me that revenue due to the home run chase is more important than the integrity of the game. Segil is as much to blame for this as anyone. Few will be happy about this event if and when it happens. I feel worse for Henry Aaron who, through it all has not said a single negative thing. He is the real hero. A great and humble man who played the game the right way. His 755 home runs should always be recognized as the true, clean record.
I agree with Choro-Kun 100%

Great question-
Well first of all I am a huge Giants fan. Personally i want to see him break the record but I have a feeling that if he does break the record not many people will appreciate it. Even if he took performance enhancing drugs- he still will hopefully hit the most home runs. Some people say that steroids will tarnish the record...but when some records were broken because the season was extended hence 61*. Although not many people want to see the record broken-I believe it will happen, and I want it to happen-Steroids or not, this will be one of the greatest records ever broken-I just hope people will realize that.

Well, I do not think it matters if he breaks the record or not. No one is going to give him credit for actually breaking the record. His steriod usage will always over shadow any accomplishments he might have. Can you imagine the all time home run record holder not getting into the Hall of Fame? We see where the baseball writers stand on this issue and if Mark McGuire is denied entrance because of alleged steriod use, then Barry Bonds will crucified because he is hated by most of the media and rightfully so if you ask me.
I think baseball has to investigate Bonds and if it is proven beyond any shadow of doubt that he abused steriods. Proven to the point to where even the most die-hard Giants fan believes their hero is a cheater, then they have to wipe his records from the book. It would be black eye to baseball if they allow the record to stand, but will not honor it in the Hall of Fame because of the contraversy surrounding it. It has to be all or nothing. The record stands and Bonds is exonerated or Bonds is cheater and banned from baseball along with all his bogus records. I vote the latter.

I am a fan that loves to see records get broken. I also am a huge fan of the Hammer. Even Aaron said he expects bonds to break the record and called him the best hitter, ever. I would rather, however, see anyone break the record other than bonds. He just seems to be a horrible person. It has nothing to do with baseball really, he just seems like a real JERK. Aaron is a class act, always has been, and to see that record fall to a jerk like bonds is just a nightmare. I can only hope that someone will catch and pass bonds in the not too distant future.

i will never support barry bonds. he is a menace to baseball. he dished me as a 13 year old high schooler at a card show shortly after coming to the SF Giants and I will never forgive him. not give an autograph to a young girl who paid money. what a loser.
i have absolutely no respect for him because he has no respect for any part of the game. he does not deserve to be on the record books.
the only chance he has of breaking it is if he first actually signs with the giants. last time I checked his contract still was not complete. that was announced shortly after the whole amphetamines debacle. So technically he is not on the team. and assuming he gets over his random assortment of injuries and actually decides to play more than half the season, sure he might break it .
But really who cares?

Never! This guy is a cheater!
Instead of admitting he has taken steroids, he denies it, Instead of being in prison, his best friend is doing his time for him. I just can't see why this person shouldn't be allowed to break 755.
It would be a disgrace no matter how much homeruns he hit before the steroids usage, this man is a cheap addict, and does not deserve to past Hank Aaron's, or for that matter Babe Ruth as well.
Sportscenter may not care about it, but us baseball fans know that Barry Bonds does not deserve any credit for breaking Babe Ruth's record.

Of course. The fact is, Barry Bonds is the greatest baseball player I have ever seen in my lifetime. There has been no definitive proof of steriod use and they have been trying to find something for the last 4 or 5 years on the guy. If they really had something, I think we would all know by now.
I hope he hits 800.

I've been a Giants fan all my life and I don't want to see Bonds break the record. But he will unless something "legal" happens between now and then. It's sad to think that we may see baseball's all time HR leader AND baseball's all time HIT leader NOT in the Hall of Fame. Sportswriters will never vote Bonds in. They hate the guy even more than the fans do.

I do not want to see Barry Bonds break the Home Run record but I think that it is inevitable. I really liked Bonds in his early years and first saw him play A-level ball in Alexandria, Virginia. He was a five-tool player with the Pirates and his first few years with the Giants. Something got in his head that he had to be better and I think when he started the performance enhancers, the visions of fame and fortune got to him.He should get an asterisk beside the home run mark like Roger Maris once did.

Absolutely not. He is a disgrace to the game. He tested positive for amphetamines, and he has done steroids. He also has a bad attitude, so how can he expect people to believe him when he says he didn't do steroids? He should be given a lifetime ban from baseball.
