I guess when you say "young girls" there has to be clarification on how young you are talking about and also what type of setting are you speaking of.
Rule of thumb at our house was this.
No single dating until after the age of 16. Before that my girls were only allowed to go to group activities where there would be "responsible" adult supervision.
If you allow young girls to be unsupervised too early they can easily be taken advantage of. Any police officer will tell you that prevention is the best key to protecting our young.
Case in point: One girl that I know was allowed to go to a party at the home of a boy from her school. The parents were supposed to be supervising, but they weren't. The kids were allowed access to alcohol. A boy got this 14 year old drunk to the point of alcohol poisoning and then raped her. When this boy's dad saw him raping her, he pulled him off of her, pulled up her pants, and put her in the front yard.
Once they are broken because we fail to protect them, you can't fix them. You can never give them back what they lose. So do young girls need chaperons? Absolutely! Stuff can happen to older girls, but they will have more maturity and hopefully make better decisions as they get older.

Some do and some don`t.It really depends on the girls maturity and ability to make smart decisions. My daughter would have needed one, because she turned into a wild child when she was 17 years old.She outgrew that stage thank god.I on the other hand wouldn`t have needed a chaperon when i was a teenager. It really depends on the girl itself i would say.If she can show that she is a very responsible and mature person she shouldn`t really need a chaperon.some parent just care and worry about their girls. The world is a mean and sometimes dangerous place. A good parent always worrys. You`ll learn that when you get a little older. My daughter had to learn from her own mistakes and thank god she returned back to her smart and loveble self.

I agree with you. Girls don't need chaperons, but guys do. Girls are taught to control their hormonal surges, but guys aren't. There are some young men who are true gentlemen, and they would never disrespect a young girl because they can control their hormones.

The problem today is that even when girls CAN take good care of themselves, and some young men are true gentlemen, not all guys control their desire for sexual experiences, and lots of good girl fall for sweet-talk and desire for going a bit further than kissing.

And when the bad guys have their hormones working overtime, they can come up with quite a repertoire of sweet-talk, only to convince the girls to have sex with them. And that casual sexual act, ends with a positive pregnancy, and a more difficult future for the young lady than for the young man.

Remember that there are guys who even use rape-drugs to achieve their goal. And that's where CHAPERONS come to the picture. Watching the girls from falling into the wrong hands, and preventing guys from using things that would destroy a girl's future.

I was young once, and I remember how I felt, and how difficult it was to control myself. And now that I have a 13 y/o daughter who is begining to like boys, I am a hawk, but I am her friend should she ever needs my counseling.

It depends on how young and what the situation is. I am 36 and I can tell you that too many women I have met in my life told me horrible stories about things that happened to them when they were young. Sometimes the women were still damaged by the events many years later. Teenage girls do not know enough about men to know when they are in a dangerous situation. Unfortunately they are just learning how to attract men. This can be a dangerous combination. Do not be afraid of having fun, but definitely think about what you are doing. Especially seek advice from older women that you know.

I am of the opinion that girls of any age, don't need chaperone's when they are educated on the hazards that they face, receive self defence training , and enjoy the faith of her parents in the years of training that they've given her all her life and their trust that she will always try to do the right thing.
