What can make a person show a false positive cocaine test?

There are several ways to get cocaine into your system. 1.Chewing on leaves of the coca plant. You would probably have to eat a lot of leaves though. U wudnt get high from the leaves but you would have cocaine in your system. Chewing coca leaves is not illegal.
Next on the list is 2. drinking coca tea made from the leaves. U would get slightly higher from this and again would have cocaine in your system.
Other ways of getting cocaine into u are 3. smoking it, 4. swallowing it or 5. insufflating it (snorting it). However, these are illegal.
Cocaine is absorbed by ur mucous membrane and travels to the brain from there. The only exception to this is when it's injected. In this case it goes into the bloodstream and on to the brain.
When chewed, eaten or drunk the cocaine is taken through the mucous membranes in ur cheeks. Typically the dosage involved would not be enough to give u any effect.
When snorted the cocaine goes through the membranes of the sinuses. Absorption through the nasal membranes is approximately 30-60 percent, with higher doses leading to increased absorption efficiency. Any material not directly absorbed through the mucous membranes is collected in mucus and swallowed
When smoked, cocaine is sometimes combined with other drugs, such as cannabis; often rolled into a joint or blunt. Crack smokers who are being drug tested may also make their "primo" with cigarette tobacco instead of cannabis, since a crack smoker can test clean within two to three days of use, if only urine (and not hair) is being tested.
With injection cocaine reaches the brain in a matter of seconds, and the exhilarating rush that follows can be so intense that it induces some users to vomit uncontrollably. In a study of cocaine users, the average time taken to reach peak subjective effects was 3.1 minutes. The euphoria passes quickly.
I think I was a bit disorganized there. Anyway if you showed a positive on a test but weren't taking cocaine the only answer is u were but u didn't know it i.e. someone spiked u with it.
If u actually *were* taking cocaine and u got stopped u cud try to claim that u were chewing the leaves or drinking the tea as that's not illegal. But please don't, I'm planning to use that excuse myself ;-)

Honestly, I don't think anything can test falsely positive for cocaine except cocaine. May be a defective test, if you're adament you've never used. Retest.
