I went to one of the H.O.R.D.E. Festival shows back in the mid-'90s. Great bill ... I remember Beck and Ben Folds Five were there. But the highlight was watching Neil Young. He was one of the headliners, and he came on after dark. Keep in mind this was an outdoor show ... it had already started to rain and lightning. When he took the stage, a thunderstorm had rolled in, and the rain was pouring down in sheets, just rolling down the auditorium floor like a waterfall and pooling in front of the stage. Then a lightning strike knocked out the power ... but Neil kept playing! He didn't miss a beat! The whole auditorium was dark except for a few candles Neil had burning on stage, and he was crouched over his guitar, ripping through the solo to "Like a Hurricane" -- how appropriate! Everyone was trying to gather down by the stage, because the only sound was coming from the stage monitors, which must have been on some kind of backup power. THAT was a great night. I've been to about 50 concerts, but that was the best.
