The BEST way to install anti-dowry ideas is two-fold:

We have to EDUCATE the women in the countries that support this system that there IS something that their Daughters can look forward to BESIDES being sold as a piece of "Chattel" to marriage for a financial benefit to the FATHER/His Family (and used as a slave of the in-laws) ... and this comes when WOMEN are given the ability to keep the INCOME that they EARN through their hard work, and have a say through Women's Banks, Women's Businesses, and her Ability to SHARE/Learn about Home Finances. SHE, the Mother, needs to have an outlet OUTSIDE of the home for her talents and skills, and the ability to make DECISIONS without having to have a MALE make them for her.

Second target is to provide a UNIVERSALLY Mandatory EDUCATION of our Young Girls -- and yes, that does MEAN an Education. We must develop a CULTURE in these 'dowry' countries/regions that the GIRL HAS a Mind, has Talents, and needs, and YES .. she MUST be educated to be a fully functioning member of the household .. and not just its slave. She needs to be able to READ, to WRITE, to NOT sneak around to learn ... to be able to BANK in her own name ... to WALK Freely down a street and NOT have to be subject to repressive laws/customs that limit her movements at all times. She is much MORE than just a breeding machine .. and needs to be VALUED as HUMAN.

NONE of these approaches is going to do anything UNTIL the GIRLS in this situation are FREED from the REPRESSION of their Female 'valuelessness', and the Governments of those countries/regions outlaw the "SALE" of little girls for financial gain.

Empowerment of women will make them economically independent and they can out right reject the boys whose parents demand dowry in marriage proposals.

Girls must look for boys with a pre-condtion that dowry will not be entertained on any cause and at any cost, boys and their parents will automatically will come down from the evil tree of dowry.
And thes are the sure ways to abolish dowry system.
If girls decide to save themselves from the evil of dowry, yes, they can save themselves.

1. Girls, do not marry those who ask dowry under any circumstances
2. Develop anti-dowry attitude right from the cradle, or at least in the school
3. Married Girls, lodge a police complaint, if you are harassed for dowry in any form. Nip it in the bud. Be ready to obtain a divorce
4. Bring pressure on religious heads to make 'asking for dowry' a taboo
5. Increase the severity of punishment to those who violate law

Begin with yourself and your family.
Dont give / accept a dowry. Make sure your brothers dont demand any dowry. Spread this awareness among your family and neighbours.
If you hear of any dowry demands it is now possible to make a police complaint which is usually followed up with a non bailable warrant against the groom and his parents, meaning they will all go to jail compulsorily for a month.
However be fair, dont misuse this law. I have personally seen a family that were falsely accused and spent time in jail, simply because the girl wanted to lead a very carefree spinster life after marriage. Needless to say the marriage ended in a divorce.

There is law in india preventing dowry. But unless the people desire not to give and take dowry, this cannot be eliminated from society. Society as a whole, should adhere to certain norms not only in dowry, even other matters of pomp and show in marriages, unnecessary expenditures in other celebrations, bringing down the population figures, minimum degree level education for everyone irrespective of caste, religion or mother tongue, duly considering the well-being of the nation. Unless everyone decides or atleast the majority, things cannot change on its own. VR

Techinically the roots of this are so spread that every person who has a doughter allwas cocern on its solution and opposed it,but unforinutly whenthe chance of the marrige of their son come that time the same person demand the dowary.
from the old time many socialist try to remove this from the socity ,the made many capagine but remain unsucces.just becouse the in coparation of the rest of public.
I which one daythios will endup and the life of the girls will be save.i am strongly opposed to it thts why i am with u .
I am 26 year old and going to marry and I am happy becose my family understand this evil and apposed to this and thats my marrige will be out of this.U know the girl who is going to be mylife is my own choice.i understand that life is not made happy and productive only by money. But if u have a good life partner than u can get every thing in ur life urself ,belief on urself that u can get every thing on ur self effert. So ur stregenth and proof urself.
When the young genration come forword himself spacially boys and oppos this, then the end of this decies from the socity can be possible.this is the only oneway to get off this.I prou that some cases of such type are coming and the educated youth is is understanding it.
Every peson should oposed it and educat his and her relative and friend then the solution comeup. .This is the time when the youth has to come in front row and oppos it then one daythis bed evil will be end otherwise na hum rahenge na tum but rahge ye dowry.
Awake up youth ,come forword and finish the dowry from the socity to give a pleasent and safe life to the girls after marry.A girl is the laxmi of ur family and she can change ur destiny.
So accept and welcom the dowry free marrige and contribut in ur part as a civilised and resposible guy.It is are duty and we have to understnd and accept it.
End,end and end can be done by us.come forward ahade and ahade.

Dowry is illegal in India, so anyone practicing it can be turned in to the police. Basically any parent willing to pay a dowry is putting their daughters lives on the line. The whole hindu dowry system makes no sense, because its the woman who enables the man to carry on his family name. When a woman pays a man, its no better then a stud fee paid out to the owners of male animals for breeding. Now if we are talking about animals, then its important to point out that females always cost more than males because of their ability to give birth. So if anyone should be giving a dowry, it should me the grooms family giving it to the brides family. Otherwise you are putting yourself below the animals as well as your fellow human beings.

Parents have to treat their girl child and boy child as equal.
They should not discriminate between a girl and a boy.
Girl child should be given the same food as a boy.

Preference should be given to the girl child's education.Education will make her employable and economically independent. It will improve her self confidence and give her the strength to face the world on an equal basis as the boy child.Economic independence empowers the woman.

The girls should have an equal share in the ancestral property automatically as her birth right.

The girl once married should be given the choice of retaining her maiden name.

The girl should be allowed to do the last rites of her parents if she wishes to.

If the girl, after she is married, wants her parents to live with her, and she is also an equal earning member of the family, then it should not be a taboo.

In some parts of India, the parents of the girl cannot visit their daughter after her marriage and have food in her house, this custom should be rooted out of the minds of people and society.

Parents must teach their boys to respect girls from childhood.

In this way it will help to save many women who become victims of dowry deaths and harrassment, and girl children who become victims of girl infanticide.

I should consider education to women as the best anti-dote to the evils of dowry. Let women grow with a sense of dignity and let not the parents feel that girl children are inferior to the boys and therefore they have to provide for her marriage. Education alone will give the girl a sense of self respect and self worth, which will give them the ability to withstand the taunts of men and the courage to stand on their when it comes that.

I didn't have a father around to pay a dowry for me anyway so its hard for me to fight for something I can't relate to. Although marriage is not everything and women are worth more then their dowries.
