They do this to increase their points (albeit slowly) by playing against newbies and provisional players new to the game. This way you can become the most rated player ever without ever playing with players as good as you or better. There should be a rule which says, sure you can join the room and play against beginners rated 200 points less than you, but you get zero points if you win. Zero. Just my two cents.

The formula is already set up to take this into account. Lets take a few players , we will call one Uber, one Strong, one Strong 2, and one Weak

Uber has a rating of 1700, Strong and Strong2 have a rating of 1500, while weak's rating is 1300.

If Strong plays Strong2, they each risk 16 points.....so the winner gets 16 points and the loser loses 16 points.

If Strong plays weak, the formula changes....so Strong BEATS Weak, he only gains 4 points, however, if Weak beats Strong....weak gains 28 points!!! You may ask why.....well according to the system, if they played each other many many times......Strong would win 3 games, and weak would win one.....So if they played 400 games...Strong (being rated 1500) should win 300 games, while weak should win 100.

The points become even more skewed if Uber plays weak.

The thing is, you have a CHANCE to beat or draw someone 200 points higher than you in a game. I have done it, it isnt all that uncommon...(it should happen about 25% of the time).....

If you lose to someone 200 or more points higher than you, you arent going to lose mnay points, but if you happen to beat them, youre going to gain A LOT.

My recommendation personally is to always play people that are higher rated than you...although not more than 200 points. Look at it like a free lesson...the odds are youre going to lose, but try to learn from it.

When you play people that are lower than you, you 'play down to their level' .... likewise when you play people higher rated...you will perform better and learn more....so do not fear them....look forward to these guys who are actually doing you a FAVOR!

I wish you the best of luck in your chess studies, I know you will be beating these punks really soon!

I wouldn't worry too much. These people obviously care more about their ratings then their game. Constantly playing against noobs and feeling good because you have a high rating is at best pathetic. When they meet a real chess player, their abilities, or lack thereof, will show clearly.

Still, if Yahoo does not award points for playing beneath your rating, there would be little incentive for the more experienced players to play the new ones. And sometimes the best way to improve our game is to learn from our mistakes.

And the previous answerer is correct: you can choose not to play against the highly rated players. Or you can play them and realise that beyond the high ratings, they are just paper tigers.

You know a lot of kids be on this site, and exposing to smutty garbage like that is a bad thing. Y! doesn't want any problems with that from its users. Another thing, You can't ask questions on that kind of stuff here because Rule 3 of the Community Guidelines strictly prohibits any content that contains explicit language. There are a lot of adult sites where you can ask those questions, but not here. Now I hope you get the message loud and clear.

Umm no I think anyone should be able to play anyone..And if you don't want to play high scored players then don't play them, you have the option of denying someone or not joining a game duh!!! I'm not trying to be rude really, but it is common sense just don't play with them if you don't want too!!

They have low self-esteem and view themselves as failures in life and thus need to bolster their fragile egos by beating people in on-line games.

There's nothing you can do for these damaged souls except pity them.
