i was thinking if an ordinary marble(the one that children use to play on) can conserve heat/energy on flat irons?

Definitely can! The actual problem is how much heat it can store.

They will be lousy conductors of thermal energy so I guess that makes them decent insulators. However, I'm not sure I understand the application.
