200,000 miles is perfectly possible but only if you service the car properly. Only buy a BMW if you are prepared to spend money on preventative maintenence. I think the 318 has chain driven cam so at least there is no belt to worry about.

120000 miles is very low for a 15 year old car make sure you get it checked out in case it was "clocked" I recently bought a 1999 318i with 102000 miles which is above average but its a brill car until i noticed it had an oil leak and the shocks were gone it cost me a fortune to get fixed but its the best car i've ever owned you should easily get another 100k out of it if you look after it and it has a good service history

BMW can easily pass 200,000 on the clock without mechanical fault but this depends entirely on regular servicing , if it hasn't been serviced for the past say 30,000 miles then your first service will cost a bomb !
check the rubber around the windows if it's drying out and brittle it's usually a good indication on any car that age has taken it's toll and problems usually minor ones but many of them are on the way , worn wishbone , worn ignition switch , faulty electrics .

all that said a BMW is about the best used car you can buy but check for service history because they rarely break down but when they do ££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££££!!!!!!

Firstly, it is essential that the car has a good service history,i cannot stress how important this is...
Secondly, if your own knowledge of buying a car only runs to "tyre kicking" you absolutely must take some one with who knows what they are doing.....
If you don't get it right, the cost of repairs on BMW cars can be very expensive.....All being well you could easily get another 80,000 miles out of it...be careful and good luck

Quite frankly at that age if it had much less miles I'd be wondering why. Its actually well below average miles as it is.
The engine is good for another 100k at least if looked after.
A good used car choice in my opinion.

Most emphatically have it inspected.

If it's been regularly & properly serviced it can run on for a long, long while, especially if it hasn't been thrashed.

The money spent on a professional inspection is a lot less than it could cost if it's a dud!

Super great car, but because of the high costs of repairs you should for sure have it inspected. The mileage really does say much, these cars can pretty much run for ever if their well maintained.

It is a very good car if you have money for maintenance wqhich is expensive. You are almost better off leasing a new 318i. Price is right.

should be okay and run for a bit yet, depending on how good the service history is. It's not the most exciting car though....
