Who doesn't?! Seriously one of my favourite movies... The story, though a little saccharine are heart-warming. The animation is cute and well drawn (check out how the foreground is cartoonish yet the backgrounds are artistically brilliant!) And the music just backs it all up with emotional strength. Plus it's so wonderfully weird.
If you like this, may I recommend to you "Howl's Moving Castle"? Strangely based on a book by a Welsh woman (far shot form Japan, eh?) and very much in the same vein! Enjoy!

Yes it is one of my favourite movies! It is one of the best Hayao Miyazaki's works I think! As far as anime goes I think this one rises above a lot of the others. But I hear there are some big differences between the American version and the original version, called Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi (åã¨åå°ã®ç¥é ã). The link shows the differences.
As always when it comes to anime, America screws around to suit itself. I hate that!
I love it because it shows really interesting characters that aren't your typical characters found in most animation films. Western animation is horrible in comparison (even though I am Western myself). This movies is the highest grossing Japanese film ever. It is also in the top 100 films as voted on at IMDB.com.
It was the first movie to have earned $200 million at the worldwide box office before opening in the United States. By 2002, a sixth of the Japanese population had seen it.
An awesome film and truly will be on my favourite film list forever.
If you are wondering the storyline...
The protagonist, Chihiro, moves to a new town with her parents but they get lost on the way. They stop and explore a seemingly deserted carnival of sorts. Her parents start eating the food left out but as a result turn into huge pigs. Scared, Chihiro runs through the town which slowly comes to life, showing spirits everywhere. Haku, a boy saves her and tells her to go seek work from Kamajii.
Kamajii sends Chihiro to see Yubaba, the big boss of the carnival and also a powerful, mean witch. Chihiro gets work but loses her name to Yubaba. Now she is only called Sen.
Sen works in the carnival which is actually a bath-house for spirits. Eventually she manages to get her name back and freedom. But watch it to see what happens!

Yes, it's a movie, actually. It's about a little girl moving to a new town, and she's acting rather spoiled about it all, in my opinion. The parents get lost, and they find themselves in a spirt world.
While wondering around, they come across a marketplace with shops and resturants. Seeing the food, the parents sit down and eat. When they do, they turn into pigs! She comes across a bathhouse, and a boy helps her out when she starts to vanish. She wants to rescue her parents, but the boy told her she'd be safe working in the bathhouse. So the girl is working in the bathhouse, cleaning and doing chores. She tricks the witch who runs the place, and she manages to rescue her parents, long story short.
The movie is written/directed by Hayao Miyazaki. His movies are always good, I think. It's been awhile since I've seen it, so maybe I ought to sit down and watch it again. You can go to the addy below, and if you want to find out more about the man himself, click on his name when you get there. That's a link, too.

this guy has also created a lot of other great movies. you should check them out like Kiki's Delivery Service or Howl's Moving Castle.

A good cartoon. All the plot elements were resolved & the 'coming of age' theme was well handled.
