Fear is a learned reaction from a young age or a bad, frightful experience.

Find out the origins of that fear and analyse why and how you got it and think of possible ways to get rid of the fear.

If the fear is not serious, eg. fear of spiders, snakes etc, then stay away from places that you might run into such creatures.

If it's like water, public speaking or more abstract form of fear, hypnotherapy or psychiatrist treatment or some confident-boosting seminars and talks can give you a boost in overcoming fear.

Just stare fear right in the face and feel a 'I Will Survive' kind of adrenaline rushing through your body, like an African tribe warrior ready to strike and kill a lion, and you'll be rocking your way to being a fearless person!

First you have to decide if the fear is reasonable and justified, such as a fear of walking in front of a moving truck or jumping out of a plane. Fear is a way to protect ourselves from danger and it is normal.

If you're saying you believe you have fears that don't serve you, such as social fears, or fear of failure that keeps you from doing things, then you can take baby steps toward what you want to do. If you're shy, you can start by saying hello to strangers. Or just smiling at them at first. Make a list of things you'd like to do from the easiest to the hardest and give yourself small tasks every day to stretch yourself to overcome your fears.

This process, in psychology, is called SYSTEMATIC DESENSITIZATION. You can probably Google it and find a ton of information.

There are lots of theories about the causes of irrational fear, but that might not be the best thing to explore if you want to overcome them rather than justify them.

Good luck!

We become fearful, to one degree or another, when we believe that something may pose some physical or emotional "harm" to us. The natural reaction to this is to try to avoid whatever it is we are afraid of. When such fears result in our suffering a really significant degree of hardship, we owe it to ourselves to try to do something about it. If all we do is give in to avoidance (because this feels "safe") our fears just become stronger and perpetuate themselves, because, in effect, we wind up convincing ourselves that we are weak and incapable, that our fears are fully justified, and that the catastrophic outcome we dread is guaranteed to happen. Our whole sense of self-esteem and self-confidence can really be undermined if we keep giving in to the avoidance of what we fear. So what we need to do is gather up our courage and think in detail about what we fear, to analyze the whole thing from every angle we can think of, and then develop a plan of some gradual actions we can take to begin to face and deal with it. By taking some gradual steps toward facing what we fear, we then at least have a fighting chance to rebuild our sense of confidence and mastery.

Depending on the fear, there are many causes. You would have to explore your own history to find that out. The best way to deal with fear is to face it head on.
What does not kill you makes you stronger.
