I think everyone does a little, but do you take it to an extreme and have you ever avoided a person because of their appearance?

The politically correct answer here would be to say "Oh of course not! Looks are only skin deep and personality means everything!" That's a load of crap. We all judge based on looks. I have before. You have a good shot of knowing what a person may be like based on how they present themselves and their demeanors. For example, a skinny pale guy who is dressed poorly and has poor posture and stance, you can be 95% sure that (no, not that this guy is smart...) this guy will be a pushover. Pretty much he probably doesn't have a lot of friends and if you were an attractive female, you can get almost anything you want from this guy. He'll be happy that you're even talking to him.

The other extreme is to see someone who is threatening looking. This one I'll chalk up to mother nature and self-preservation instincts. If I'm walking down an empty street and a big biker looking guy starts following me, I'm going to be on guard. It is a part of simple truth that most people try to deny nowadays in an attempt to be politically correct.

Everyone judges based on looks. Avoiding someone based on looks may be a shallow thing.... but let me know how it goes when you walk into the inner city alone and approach a group of wanna be thugs..... say hi to them! Ask them how their day was. Lemme know how that goes. :-D

As an add on... there are a LOT of people answering this who say that they don't judge people based on their looks... that's complete BS. It's amazing how self-diluted some people are. Anyone who has answered this question by saying that you never judge people based on appearance, when was the last time you struck up a conversation with a homeless beggar? When did you last see a wannabe thug at a mall and thought... Oh I bet they are really nice! I agree that personality wins in the long run.... but don't deny the fact that EVERYONE judges people based on outward appearance from time to time! And it does not have to be someone judging based on how scary someone looks or how ugly. Have you ever gone to a mall and seen a bunch of REALLY pretty girls only to think to yourself that they are probably snobby or stuck up? Guys out there who have said that they don't judge based on looks.... have you ever seen a hot girl? Why do you think they are hot? Their looks? Yeah... I'm done here. Thanks for posting the question. :-D

I don't judge friends based on their looks and I'm open to being friends with anyone. However, I do snicker and make fun of oddities as I see them, but if the circumstance arose that I would be interacting with the same person I was making fun of the day before I could very easily add them to my circle of friends.

I think it's human nature to some extent to converse and joke about other people's misfortune.....to an extent! I would never make fun of someone dying or a burn victim or something like that. Usually people that could try a little harder to present themselves to the world are the targets....trust me, I'm no gift to the world myself.

I think it's natural for everyone to judge someone by their looks for the most part of it ~ then take an extra step to get to know someone on the inside. I think the world would be a better place if that was the case ~ more people get to know each other on the inside.

No,I never do that. Because appearances are not that important. It's the inside that really matters. You can have someone who's really not good-looking but from inside he or she is such a great person. That happens all the times.

NO, I DO NOT.

SOME OF THE MOST NASTIEST, CRUELEST, IGNORANT PEOPLE I HAVE ENCOUNTERED HAD A LOT OF OUTER BEAUTY. THEIR PERSONALITY MADE THEM UGLY AS SIN!!

BESIDES, MY MOTHER RAISED ME TO JUDGE PEOPLE FOR WHO THEY ARE ON THE INSIDE. I LEARNED THAT AT A VERY YOUNG AGE, THEREFORE I WAS NEVER TEMPTED TO AVOID SOMEONE BECAUSE OF HOW THEY LOOKED.

most of the scary people I have ever known were my friends in my youth so I tend to accept others for the human inside and not the surface human they choose to display.
