Here are just a few facts about the death penalty. We should make up our minds about the death penalty using common sense based on the facts. Revenge does not answer the question. Some of the answers you have received are mistaken on the facts.
The death penalty isn’t a deterrent. Homicide rates are higher in states that have the death than in states which do not have it. Most people who commit murder do not think they will be caught (if they think at all.) The answerer from Texas got the facts on crime rates wrong.
The death penalty system costs much more than a system that does not have the death penalty. Much of these extra costs come way before the appeals begin. (This money ought to be spent on victims services, which are underfunded.) Violet, have a look.
Over 120 people on death rows have been released with evidence of their innocence. Some had spent decades on death row. Speeding up the system will guarantee the execution of an innocent person. (Urtelme should look at this one.)
“Beyond a shadow of a doubt” is not something that human beings can guarantee. DNA is not a miracle cure for wrongful convictions, it is not available in most homicide cases and, as human beings, we make mistakes. Most of us do not want to see an innocent person killed. After an execution, the case is closed. If the wrong person was executed the real killer is still out there. (Pompanopeteo should look at this one.)
More and more states have life without parole on the books. It means what it says and is no picnic to be locked up for 23 of 24 hours a day, forever.
The death penalty can be very hard on the families of murder victims. As the process goes on they are forced to relive their ordeal in the courts and in the media. Life without parole is sure and swift and rarely appealed.
Opposing the death penalty does not mean you excuse brutal crimes or believe murderers should go unpunished. It means you know the facts and you are using common sense.

In a perfect world yes in this one no.
People can't be brought back but the person being executed will never do it again.
I feel that everyone who has been charged with murder has to have a DNA test and if they are ruled out let them go...if they match then fry their behind the next day and that way the prisons wuldn't be so crowded.

No.
What is needed is two things;
1. To be ABSOLUTELY certain the person is guilty
2. Do it publicly so the impact of what we are doing and why is not something people should "close their eyes to"
Citizens would think twice about killin' and criminals would know what they face for committing a capital crime.

No! Why should we have to pay for someone in prison to have cable TV,workout rooms and good meals when they took a life of someone innocent or molested someones child, no I don't support that at all, some law abiding citizens don't even have it that good. Have you ever had a family member murdered? I have !

Yes. Revenge is the only reason for the death penalty. It has been proven it does not deter criminals. We have no right to execute people. Nobody was born a bad person. It is our culture, parenting, society, that creates bad people

Yes. Not only is it cruel and inhumane but its not our job to take life. I don't want to excuse the crime that they have committed but to kill some one for killing some one it dosent make sense. Lets person has killed some one then we kill him it would be like taking an eye for and eye and if we do that we all end up blind.
