I am trying to get online with a PC and all components are working but I am getting IP address errors. There is another computer in the house that is online and functioning normally. Is this a problem with my machine?

I apologize if this question seems vague- I hope that I'm asking the right thing!

Do the following... step by step...
1. verify your lan card in installed properly. Search for the same in Device Manager. if its not get the make and model of your lan-card, get the driver for the same and install the driver.
Thats the most probable cause in your case i think. Just to double ensure that your hardware is working, connect both your working and not working pc directly by cross-over wire(the same one that you use to connect to router) If your working pc says connected(now cross in the network connection) then you should be able to connect from your not working pc also.
2. Now open network connections and select the appropriate connection(if not present driver is not installed go back to step1). from its properties choose tcp/ip and select properties. Copy all the fields from your working computer and apply changes.
to ensure run "ipconfig" from a command prompt on both the computers and verify that output are the same. also verify that dns is same in bath the computers.
You r ready with a working pc now!

First verify if your PC has an static ip address. Then go to the command prompt, start, run, cmd, and type ipconfig. This command will give you the current ip address status. Also verify who is giving the ip address. Some dsl services only allow for one machine to get online. In order to by pass this you will need a small hub or switch. Hope this helps.
