What are the images you see in the media today, and how do they affect the way society views women? What do you think? Unrealistic? Objectified? Demeaning? Reasonable? If you were head of a large multi-media conglomerate, would you change how women are portrayed in the media -- why or why not?

*** My hypothesis is: The media projects an idealistic view of the feminine form and plays on the insecurities of modern-day women.***

And no... LOL... I'm not a feminist before any of you make that statement. I just had to pick a controversial issue for a paper that I am writing.

i agree that the media feeds on the insecurities of modern-day women....if you're a stay at home mom, they will portray that as less meaningful and if you work, they will portray that as neglecting your children...the media is fear based. anything they can tell you for ratings.

If I was Rupert Murdock, for example, my first responsibility would be to make a profit for my shareholders. Therefore, I would publish that which moves the most product, which would include all of the adjectives in your question, and more.

If, however, I was a man of conscience (as well as a Man of Steel) which I am, I would promote the cause of esteem in women by training them to compete and win in the marketplace of ideas. With numbers in excess of 50% of the population, they could make an incredible difference in short order.(Many women already have)

The media always blows things out of porportion if it is not a factual article, media hype is just that.I for one would like to see women represented in a more realistic manner not what society deems appropriate to make themselves a profit.

I would say that the media paints a very general prespective of women. they also paint a very genral prespective for men.
Let them do that it gives something for shallow people to act like, meanwhile people who have there own eyes and ideas we see people for who the are and ignore the media for the most part.
