my girlfriend is filipina, but sometimes we arent on the same page....just wanting 2 know if its cuz of our different upbringing. she is from the small town of sorsogon, i am an american.....ohh yeah, why wont she allow me 2 kiss her in public, nothing big, just a small kiss?? she forbids it..heh

There are a lot of differences between American and Filipino culture. A lot of Filipinas dislike the public display of affection. There is nothing wrong with it. Also, she is from one of the provinces of the Philippines, and therefore a lot of old ways still remain unlike the way it is in Manila. You just have to embrace all the differences since you chose to have a foreigner as a girlfriend. The same thing goes if you choose a Chinese, Japanese, Korean or any other person from a different culture.

Although there are big differences between the American and the Filipino culture, we Filipinos are living in modern times now.

The differences for me based on experience:

Americans love independence and are much more responsible because of this.

Filipinos try to help their parents out first before marrying.

Filipinos are very helpful to their relatives. Even if they are in America, they are still sending their relatives to school, sending stuff to their relatives here in the Philippines.

Filipinos certainly respect each other far more than Americans. Their culture is more conservative than the Western culture, hence the no kissing in public (though mine does). Just accept the diffferences and enjoy the ride. Your girlfriend will almost certainly be 110% devoted to you.

well,i am filipina and i've been here in USA for almost two years.i have a polish bf and i dont care if he kisses me in public but i wont allow him to kiss me in public when we are in philippines.mostly filipinos are conservatives.well,there are still people who are PDA in philippines and we think of them as cheap people.
