Wat Disney World is part of the Parks and Resorts deivision of a major corporation called the Walt Disney Company. Allowing Disney the right to create the Reedy Creek Improvement District to house the Walt Disney World resort was not to leave the company exempt from state laws. RCID was created because the amount of land Disney bought for the resort was so large (27,443 acres) that it spanned two counties that had certain different ways of doing things. In order to keep all of the land for Disney use, small towns had to be created in each county. Very few people live on Disney property, but they are there, voting regularly on issues pertaining to the resort and the land that it sits on. The Reedy Creek Fire Department was created to protect the resort and the surrounding areas--and was the first in Florida to use the 911 emergency system. Walt Disney World does NOT have its own police department--not being a "City" it doesn't need to. And, contrary to popular opinion, Disney security does NOT act as a police forse. The Orange County Sheriff's Office and the Osceola County Sherrif's Office take care of their respective sides of Walt Disney World Property.

For your case I'd go with WDW. There's more to do there, so your two weeks will be well spent (assuming your main reasoning for travel is the theme park) Some things at WDW That sound right up your alley: The Pixar countdown to fun parade, Hollywood studios (HS) , I can't really recommend this entirely because I haven't seen it but it looks cool The finding Nemo Musical, Animal Kingdom (AK) The toy story ride at HS, and there's a Buzz Lightyear one in Magic Kingdom (MK) THE BEAUTY AND THE BEAST SHOW AT HS! It's so good. It's got great music, dancing, costumes, it's really just incredible. The Lion king show at AK is fantastic! Lots of fun. Rather than it being a short version of the movie, they've got characters and songs from the movie paired with acrobats and fire juggling type people. It's so cool. Pirates of the Caribbean: I'm not a huge fan of it, but the ride is fairly popular. It's in MK The New Little mermaid ride in MK should be open when you go there, so definately try that. And then seriously, meet characters. It's so fun. Maybe even get an autograph book, it's really a charming thing to do.

Walt Disney itself is a corporation. In Florida, the Florida Legislature gave Walt Disney the right to create the Reedy Creek Improvement District. Essentially, this allows the district to be exempt from many state laws and rules.

The idea for a park based on favorite movie themes originated with Walt Disney more than 40 years ago when "backlot tours" were limited to a privileged few. He first considered a park on his own backlot, then looked across the river from the Disney Studios in Burbank on land adjacent to Griffith Park. Lack of enough land combined with potential traffic problems caused him to look elsewhere; namely, Anaheim. The result was Disneyland. In the mid '80s, a greatly expanded production schedule for the Walt Disney Company demanded more facilities. Rather than buy expensive land in California, the company realized it had plenty of land in Florida and the opportunity to combine its new production facilities with a chance for Walt Disney World guests to see behind the scenes of movie and television production.
