Keep them both. You'd only be using one at a time most likely. On several occasions I have come across sites that do not support Firefox, so you might want IE as a back-up.

A program you are not using has no effect on your computer speed, but they can both run at the same time. When you open Firefox a little popup screen will ask, Do you want Firefox to be your default browser, check yes. Then when you click a link, it will use Firefox and not IE.
You need to set your computer for automatic updates, because IE 7 is no longer a beta version.

There is no chance that you can get rid of Internet Explorer, it is very much essential for updating your Windows and stuff. So, keep both. IE never runs in the background, so it won't slow down your computer. And yes, I guess that you have already made Firefox your 'default browser'. If so, then immediately open IE > Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab. From there, make IE your default browser. You may not notice the change, but I am asking you to do so for a reason, so please do follow it.

Firefox is our main browser, but I am glad we kept INternet Explorer too. Sometimes I come across sites that say they are supposed to be viewed using Explorer. And my kids have to use Explorer when they want to use their Webkinz (virtual online pets they got recently) because on Firefox for some reason the bottom of the screen is not visible on that site, so they can't access certain things in Firefox.

You're better off just keeping both, because some web pages don't support the use of Firefox (to open). Some programmers just haven't got the hint yet that Firefox is the new IE. *sigh*
I use both and haven't had a problem with lag. If you are, I would clean up my hard drive a bit, defrag, get rid of old programs you don't use, etc.
Take care!

I would uninstall IE7 Beta and get the production one. I would also keep both to decide what your preferred browser is. If it is IE7, deinstall firefox. Deinstalling IE7 won't do much being that it will still leave an older version on your pc.

I wouls suggest keepin' both as firefox althought its really good it takes up a lot of processing space. I used to use firefox b4 Internet explorer 10 came out.....which is like firefox but takes less processing space although it too has its downsides like when it doesnt remember usernames and stuff.

you don't have to uninstall internet explorer...and its better to keep it because there are still some sites that you cant view using Firefox.

You can have as many browsers as you like..personally I use 3 different ones on my pc. They don't have a huge effect on the speed of your computer only your hard drive space

I was in your situation, but i uninstalled internet explorer, because it was making my computer quite slower. Plus, anytime you wanted you can redownload it.
