There's only 2 things I can think of. Either 1 they are thinking "Hell its the Dems who proposed it so we're gonna oppose it", you know, just being very partisan. Either that, or its because of this one key paragraph in that story:

"Republicans demanded that before the Senate vote on the reform measure, it consider a proposed amendment to permit a "line item veto," which would allow a president to single out specific spending or tax provisions in bills approved by Congress and ask that lawmakers go back and delete them."

I don't know, I find this funny. Wasn't it the Supreme Court that declared Bill Clinton's line item veto use unConstitutional? And now the Reps want it...

Politics! I will not speak to personal motivation as I do not know any of these people personally and therefore do not have a proper position to speculate. However this does appear to be a good bill for the most part and should be passed. Trying to attach an amendment for a line item veto does appear to be an attempt to kill the bill. Republicans do need to be very careful here because stalling or killing this bill will hurt their credibility in the next election as they will be painted as being against ethics and accountability. We need reform because Congress is out of control in several areas.

They are hiding overwhelming results of their own corruption, this is a setup from the Democrats to break these cretens down for good. I like the approach, and I don't see where the new Congress will allow this to lay up. No wonder Bush doesn't want the illegal wiretapping to go on with the Democrats in office now.

The major players in the Bush regime are many of the same people who were around during the Nixon administration. Donald Rumsfeld and Dick Cheney, for example were aides to Gerald Ford who followed and pardoned Nixon. They tried to persuade president Ford to veto the enhanced Freedom of Information Act. Back then they seem to have recognized that the truth would haunt them. It still does. They preferred to operate with impunity then as they do now. What can one expect from the same cast of characters? They were sick then, when Nixon was in office, and, they are sick now.

History has a way of repeating itself as the observation goes. Sooner, or, later, as the tide continues to turn, the people will respond to the pervasive sickness that permeates this regime and the land, and do something about it. The populace will once again become sick and tired of the sickness. When that happens, and I do believe that day is coming, a second president in my lifetime will be leaving the White House in disgrace. The people will line the streets and salute farewell to the commander-in-thief in similar fashion to how they "welcomed" him on "inauguration" day, June 20, 2001. The difference this time will be, however, that George W. Bush will be leaving the White without legitimately having been elected in the first place. Perhaps then, we can, begin to recover.

Funny, I watched a story last night about how your Democratic leader in the Senate, Harry, land swindler, Reid tried to derail the earmark legislation that his own party members approved in the House because he wants the identities of Senators who are involved in this practice to remain secret. I just can't wait until Abramoff testifys against this crook. They are all in on it so don't try to just paint one party with that brush.

They're not. It was the Republicans who made the earmarking disclosure rules tougher than Harry Reid wanted. As for the line item veto, that should also help against corrupt earmark practices.

What's the fuss about?
