Must be late 70's, early 80's. There was a lion (possibly called King, possibly in a red tracksuit) with a dragster, and a bunch of animal friends, one of which was an alligator with a bucket on his head... sorry that's all I know, but this has been driving me round the twist for years!!

thanks for your answers but its none of those! It was a cartoon show, not part of a film (yes, and I love Bedknobs and Broomsticks too!) the lion was the main character. I'm sure it's not hannah barbera but it's one of those type of cartoons

he's a slim lion, with a great big dragster, and a big afro type hairdo...

It sounds sooooo familiar! Could it be this?

And also appeared in The C. B. Bears: http://www.bcdb.com/cartoon_synopsis/59487-The_C.B._Bears_(Series).html

Also seems to be known as "Heyyyy It's the King" - Hey, Its the King, which had a city cat meet up with Big H the hippopotamus, Clyde the ape, Skids the alligator, Yukayuka the mole, Zelda the ostrich, and Sheena the lioness

It still seems to me like it was something else, though. I'll keep looking.

[edit] Oh good! I didn't think that was going to be it, but I'm glad it was!

Sounds defiantly like bednobs and broomsticks . Only just watched the film and has all you mentioned in it . A king lion in a red tracksuit and the alligator is spot on with a bucket on his head. Great film :)
