The illnesses you can get from shellfish are not specifically dangerous to pregnancy and shellfish are not usually on the lists of foods to avoid.
That said, there are many illnesses that can be transmitted by shellfish, including hepatitis A. Some food poisoning from mollusks is actually a result of the algae eaten by the mollusks. This includes those found in "red tides" and is more common in warm months. Unfortunately cooking the mollusks does not eliminate this risk, so you really need to be careful.
Prudence would dictate that if you are going to eat shellfish (particularly bivalved mollusks), and you prefer not to get ill, obtain it from cold waters (during winter months) and only if you are comfortable with the hygiene standards of the food workers.
If I haven't ruined shellfish for you forever, at least you now know that it is not more risky in pregnancy than at other times of your life. Bon appetite!

I'm 23 weeks pregnant too and I love prawns. My midwife told me that you can have prawns as long as they are from a supermarket and not from a market stall or take away as you don't know how fresh they are. Saying that, I havn't taken the risk and we only have 17 weeks left before we can eat all the prawns we want! Good Luck

I do - i am 25 weeks pregnant and I haven't come to any harm. i was advised not to eat them from a restaurant in case they aren't fresh but i eat lots of cooked cold prawns. They are full of Zinc which is an essential mineral that many of us are deficient in.

I asked my midwife this as all I wanted was King prawns in chilli and garlic. She said if I was doing them myself and cooking them properly not a problem, like wise only eat cold prawns if bought frozen in bag and defrosted self kept cold. Do not have from takeaway or prawn cocktail in resturant etc.
I totally avoided in my last pregnancy, as thought you shouldn't but couldn't resist this time.

Its nice! With get rid of stuff its perfect now to not devour it too lengthy after, yet an afternoon is def ok. you could warmth it up in case you quite opt for, as long as you warmth it up good you're nice. I do all of it the time! as long as you position it in the refrigerator instantly away there is no longer some thing to provide up you from eating it and in no way getting unwell. it truly is even as human beings go away it out for a lengthy time period previously putting it in the refrigerator that reason a tremendous type of the topics. i think undesirable going hostile on your granny yet actual the older generations are fairly undesirable with all that type of stuff, my gran's a similar! She'll go away stuff to get chilly previously putting it in the refrigerator, im continually caution her!

I asked my doctor the same question. His answer - you can eat just about any seafood you like, but stay away from the big fish (mackeral, swordfish, tuna, shark) because of the mercury levels. All meat makes me so sick to my stomach, except for seafood.

i'm sure you can, the ones that is being sold in the supermarkets are normally cooked and ready to eat.
unless there is an shellfish allergy in the family, i would not be consern.
alternatively, you can warm it up if you prefere to saute it in a pan and have it with stir fry vegetables.
enjoy!

my midwife told me that I can eat anything i want but to be careful with soft cheese and pate as it can contain lysteria. Other than that and liver of course (contains too much Vit A apparently) you can eat what you want.
