The reality TV format has been increasing in popularity with broadcasters for years, mainly because it is cheap programming, and is quick to produce. Personally I think and have always thought that it is lazy programming.

Regardless of what you think about the whole uproar caused by the events on the UK Big Brother (and personally I think the melodramatization of what is essentially an argument about cheese is rediculous beyond belief), do you think that the backlash seen in the media and the streets signals the death knell for reality TV. Are people getting fed up of the lack of imagination and education in our programming?

Good point Robbie. We should not be surprised really if the reaction by viewers is so extreme, since the media hype things things up so mercilessly.

The ironic thing is, that the media who stirred things up in the first place, then go on a spree of moral outrage at the results.

I think the media is going to have to change it's attitude soon. Everything is either the 'worst thing ever' or the 'best thing ever'. An analogy is in sports, where if, for example, England win a football match they are worldbeaters, and if they lose they are a national disgrace. Moderation has been removed from the social lexicon.

Yes. I stopped watching along time ago. Ambitious, non-talented, loud, stupid, wannabees, desperate for fame, are a real turn-off.... but much of the population seem to lap their crapola up and buy all the stuff with their faces on. Idiots.

"What did you do with your last 3 years ? "oh i worshipped and read loads of stuff about Jade Goody". The public are the real fools. You fools.

Not sure where your from, But our big Brother (australia) last year had some significant scandal too. Two men in the house decided to hold down a female and "Turkey Slap" her (slap their genatils in her face). Caused a massive uproar, i think the show will eventually be banned, they have already banned BB uncut. I say its only a matter of time till BB is gone for good, along with all the other reality TV rubbish we have!!

Anyone who watches these reality trash programmes should be ashamed of themselves. Stop feeding the machine. I hope this will be the end of all the reality shows but we all know it won't. People love watching others make fools of themselves for some strange reason. I stopped watching all reality shows a couple of years ago,I wish they would all be banned.

I think Jade Goody should be in fear for her life. If anything happens to her when she leaves the Big Brother house, it will be on the heads of Channel 4 and the producers of the show.

Someone is eventually going to get murdered after one of these reality tv shows. If you keep trying to provoke bigger and bigger extreme reactions in housemates, they are going to crack up and the public will loathe them and attack them verbally and, eventually physically. It's already happened in America when that gay guy admitted on a chat show that he had a crush on his straight neighbour and the guy killed him afterwards.

The producers of Big Brother should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.
