Around 28 weeks they found that the baby was smaller than it was supppost to be. They have me on part bed rest and getting NST's. They keep a very close watch on the baby. A ultrasound every two weeks. If you baby continues to be small they will probally do around the same things. I will give you some adivce. Make sure you are taking your prenatals, rest more than you usually would and on your left side. That will give your baby the best blood flow. Also make sure to have a good diet and drink lots of water. That will all help improve the chance that your baby will grow better. Good luck and wish you the best!

I am going through the same thing and have another scan booked day before you, I went for my 12 wek scan and the sonographer told me the measurements of the baby's head and limbs coincided with my LMP 18th of August, I went back for my second scan and she said the measurements were all coming up small kept asking me if I was sure of my LMP and if my other child had any problems! she has booked me in on the 29th for a growth monitering scan to make sure the baby is continuing to grow, it's so scary I will be almost 24 weeks by then I can't bare the thought that something could be wrong.

When they measure the size of the baby in scans, they don't actually measure the baby itself-but it's head circumference-and generally get an answer from that.
When I was 36 weeks pregnant,my fundal height jumped and so they sent me for a measuring scan. They told me my daughter was on the small side and would weigh under 7 pounds. When I saw my GP,he explained about the head circumference thing, saying it was only an estimation. He then put his hands on my belly and confidently said,'8 pounds!' Sure enough,my daughter was 8 pounds 4 ounces. So try not to worry about it-it is only an estimation-not a definite.

Michelle,
Congratulations!! I had the same thing happen with both of my daughters. They were small for date babies. All babies are different, and no pregnancy is text book. They had me do stress tests and ultrasounds every few weeks to measure the baby and check the development. I think they do this to ease the mother's mind as well. Everything will be fine! Soon, you'll see this little one on the screen and everything will change!! Good Luck!

Midwife will probably be right. However, what the scan will do is give an approximate age based on head diameter. These are all rule of thumb. Typically the last period date is taken to help measure. There will be some deviation.

I had the same thing with all my children, they are called small for dates babies. They will probably monitor you more closely just to check that the baby is growing properly. It only becomes a concern when the baby stops growing or is showing signs of distress. In my case it was genetic(my mother and grandmother) all had small babies. If it's any consolation my first child was born weighing 4 lb 3 oz and she is now a strapping 5 foot 8 16 year old!!

are you worried about the dates? you sound like you are!!
All babys are different sizes and any dates they give you are only approximate they could be plus or minus a week.
Dont worry about it, you baby will probably not come on the due date anyway (whos does)!
My baby was two weeks overdue which tells me the scan was 2 weeks out, nothings for certain.

Your original due date was determined by your last menstrual cycle and is not as accurate as the one done by a scan. With my daughter they changed it three times during my pregnancy.

my sister-in-law had that problem. Her baby was growing a month slower than supposed to. She ended up being induced 2 months early because the baby eventually stopped growing. Don't panic, because this may not be your problem. Just prey and wait till the next scan is done. Please Keep us posted!

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's still really early - and you're due date will most likely change a few times during the pregnancy. Wat for the next ultrasound to see what is going on, and see if your doc has any concerns then. Good luck!
