IUI (IntraUterine Insemination) is where they take your partner's sperm, "wash" it (which means identifying the best ones), induce ovulation in you, and then inject the sperm right up next to the egg to try to bring about fertilisation. It is less invasive (and less costly) than IVF.

If you have a fallopian tube problem, you are likely to need IVF instead. In IVF they take the egg straight out of the ovary, put it with the sperm in a laboratory, and check that it has fertilised before putting it back into your womb.

If your partner's sperm are of very low number or quality, you may instead need a process called ICSI, which is like IVF but the head of a single sperm is injected directly into your egg.

from what I've heard iui isn't as successful but as it's a lot cheaper might be something worth considering.
