Yes but I can remember in the 70's all we had was a newspaper. And you could not let your boss see you reading the newspaper. So this is better. Thank god i am being paid for it though.

The big myth is that you see someone looking at the screen, typing away furiously so they must be working.

I couldn't see me ever bothering with Yahoo answers in my OWN time- what would be the point?

In the early 80's in college we were continually told about the paperless office as a result of the computer I have yet to see it. When it works it can cut down on time but when it doesnt its a complete pain to fix. You cant put tippex on the screen !!

Yeah, because I was really able to work a lot faster with a pen and drawing board than an advanced CAD system, I could really type without mistakes faster than I can word-process a dicument with cool pics...

Don't be silly, you're only paid to work, get back to it. Do as I do, and only visit Answers in your lunch break.

Hello,

(ANS) This is in my opinion one of the BIGGEST cons in history that computers & software packages make us more effiecent. ALL the scientific research carried out on this prooves that computers & software DONT make us more effiecent nor help us use our time more productively.

The productivity mythe is how Bill Gates made his billions, by making people beleive that having the newest version of windows or windows software would make them work better. Its non sense, only people themselves can improve their own productivity through motivation or self motivation NOT through using software alone.

You need to put work first and treat yourself to comp time at end of work day. Efficiency thrives, alive and well with computers. Can't stop technology so make it work for you. I have five computers and need everyone of them. Business, work, banking, correspondence, hundreds of internet haunts.

A computer is just a tool. It is your hands that typed www.answers.yahoo.com. it makes things very easy for workers to divert their attention to other things, but at the end of the day it is just a tool. discipline? up to you.
