If it's the kind that are supposed to be inserted without an applicator, wash your hands first, then stand with one leg on the edge of the tub. Relax - tensing your muscles will make it impossible to get in there. Push the tampon up inside with your finger. You will probably have to put your finger in a ways to get it in correctly. Tug on the string to make sure it is secure. The directions in the box should help you - or ask your mom, sister, or friend to show you how. The non-applicator types are dry, so you may need some water-based lubricant to make it slide more easily on your lighter days. Be sure to wash your hands afterwards and dispose of any used tampons properly.
You would probably have a much easier time using slender tampons that come with an applicator. Also, there is nothing wrong with using pads if your body just doesn't work well with tampons.
Good luck and hang in there. Someday you will look back and be amazed that it was ever such a problem! :)

Have one of your legs on a chair, edge of the bathtub or what ever and grip the plug with your good hand so that it is sort of on the tip of your pointer finger and the string is being held by your other fingers. Insert the plug as far as it can go. It is in the right place if you cannot feel it.

the ones without applicator i think are really unpracticale. u have to put in ur finger inside to put it in and most of the times it feels uncomfortable and hurts when u walk or sit down. But TAMPAX they have the applicator and they are very easy to insert

If you haven't done it often it is akward. OB tampons (the nonapplicator type) has a website. Go to the link I provided and it will give you instructions on proper insertion. I hope this helps.

Flare the end and put your finger in the opening and guide in there. Try a sitting position while on the toilet sometimes that seems to help. I'm so glad I had a hysterectomy!
