I do have a water softener which I keep salt in but at times, rust still comes through the washer ruining clothing.

Buy the salt that says "rust out". It works great. Just a tad more than regular salt. You won't get anymore rust. I just learned of this about a year ago. My in-laws have a well and so do I. I couldn't understand how they never got any rust. They told me this. Or you can buy this stuff called "iron out", but it comes in a small bottle and is very expensive. Cheaper and easier to go with the salt.

Put filters in your washer hoses and also put filters in the source of your water before it comes in the home like at your well or your pump. You can also take a piece of a pair of panty hose and wrap it over your water hoses coming into the washer. Just be sure to change them as needed.

My mom always used tide it seemed to have worked the best, and she still uses it today. I remember when I was a kid still living in small town called Gulliver, Mi. the water from so much Iron in it used to turn our hair red. LOL. Hope this works for you sunnydays
