If it floats ya boat then do it.
Doesnt matter what everyone else does just do your own thing.
I'm off out to walk my 1 legged parrot with no wings now.

The harnesses are not safe for guinea pigs. Their bones are very fragile, and pulling against a lead could cause serious injury.
Instead you could build a little pen in your backyard where you could give your guinea pig some time outside. Just make sure you are watching your GP at all times, and that grass has not been treated with any pesticides or used as a bathroom by any other animals.

Leashes are not a good idea. Most guinea pigs will hurt themselves trying to get out of them. If you want to take your guinea pig for a walk, you could put him/her in a baby stroller or something.

A long time ago, I had a rabbit and used to regularly take him for a walk to a large bank of Clover which was nearby. He loved it! I got a harness and lead for him and I am sure you can get one for your guinea pig as well.
Ask at your local pet shop.

No, the leashes made for guinea pigs are very unsafe for them. They bend their spine in unnatural ways and can cause permanent spinal damage, just like the running wheels and balls.

Yes but wait for the wind to die down or people will think you are taking a furry kite for a walk
