Cyber world is as real or unreal as you want it to be.Physical anonymity has it's pros and cons.If our minds are a state of being then I'd have to say quite real.To look at it superficially,Pick and choose your friends at will.Ha Ha"smile".Just kidding.Just another realm of possibilities really. To answer your question,Your own interpretation defines what is real or not.

I know I can count on a few if needed. But what exactly is a friend? Someone who you can trust, Yup. I share my life out here with a few. Sure. Someone I can turn to when I'm either having a bad day or a great day. You bet. And then we have JIMBO... I know he is real. I can smell his Kimchee breath from here! I tried to look up Harpo when I was fishing but it was a no go. I know you are real. Don't know if I saw you at Bonaroo when OysterHead was grooving. I think I caught your eye when Victor Wooten was on stage. I can not deny you are real if that's what you want to know though. MonNoggin is real. I know that through his friends in Sun Valley. He is one cool guy too and has more friends that he even knows of.
To answer your question you need to understand what the definition of Friend is to those you ask...
And then you may need to read about a velvet rabbit to see for yourself what is real...
I guess in the end, this question can truely not have an all inclusive answer. Sorry I couldn't help you.
My initial answer was 'Sure beats chatting with the voices in my head!'.
Have a great afternoon.

My best friend is my best friend, here and outside of here. Granted, we've never met and probably never will, but we talk through emails at work and through IM very often. He's the only one who has ever really listened to me and been there for me, and I think part of that is because of the fact that we 'met' here in Y!A and therefore the only way we have of communicating is through the computer, although we did send Christmas cards! To me, he is as real as any other friend that I have, and funnily enough, most of my other friends live in distant places as well. There are a few others here that I've 'met' whom I consider friends and would like to think that had we met in the real world, we would have a fabulous time. I suppose you could say that the people I visit the most in 360 are those people, though I'm not really using my 360 anymore. Yes, to some people making friends here is a ridiculous notion, but I don't think I'm alone when I say that I've made some of the best here, and if they don't think the same way I do, then that's their right to do so. I still have a life outside of yahoo, it's been what it always has been, but I do like it here and I treasure the friends I've made here as much as any of my other friends.

Most of my "friends" here are like different channels on the TV. I like to browse and see whats going on. I enjoy sharing stories and games with these people online. There are a few friendships I have made in here will last forever and I would do anything for that person BUT each of those people that I speak of are very open and honest about themselves and we have many things in common that connect us on another level.
So the majority of my friends are not so real but the few who are ...they are extremely "real".

My only lasting and meaningful relationship has been with an inflatable doll, so being real is not a overriding concern of mine. I prefer superficiality and shallowness to substance. Well, I count you as a cyber friend (but heck, for all I know you could be an 80 year-old Basque sheepherder posing as a young, bright and vibrant school teacher from Tennessee.) Certainly, I think of Katydid as a friend and the Sanitizer, although I haven't heard from him lately. I suppose this forum is perfect in a way to interact with others. You let those on this site see only what you want them to see. All of the warts have been air brushed out.

I have yet to meet them in "real" life but lots of them are "real" people that I'd like to meet someday. I have friends in the "real" world and always have room for more. You can't have enough friends in this world. They're a lot better then having enemies. And I also don't discount the possibility of meeting someone special from here.

I have no friends in here! Some tried to become! But there is no use!How can I be friends with someone which eyes don't look at me when I talk to him! At last I have real my friends in my life! I don't need to meet in here!

I heard that professor!
I have no friends off the Internet in the so-called real world. The glowing screen is real to me, and all my friends on here are just as real as any other friendship.

I've got two or three friends on here that I'd be happy to share a beer with in the real world

I don't know about "real friends" on here, but I do have some favorite answerers. I have never formed any other kind of relationship with them.
