if you're talking about setting up a server on your system...it would be better to get space on the net there are a bunch of free and low cost hosting services...however, if you do want to do that from your system there are a few good installers that will set up an Apache server on your system http://www.apachefriends.org is one that i can actually remember...it's a little bit to get it working correctly but solid...if you just want to share files you're best bet would be to create a torrent package then you can link it on bittorrent or some others...

You would need to upload your files to a server, i'm not sure it's possible for them to be downloaded directly from your computer without it being risky on your security.
Upload the files to a server, make sure you know the URL, and make the hyperlink to that URL.
Then, you need to find a password/security gate (do a google or something, unless you have one already) and make it so that the URL to the file is covered by the password gate...
Is this making any sense whatsoever? O_< The password gates will come with instructions, but that's a method I see fit for what you want. :o)

You would need to run a web server program on your computer. Windows comes with a simple one on the CD, but you have to load it separately after the windows install process is done.

When you do this, it should respond to the incoming phone line - so remove the answering machine. Or - with broadband, your TCP/IP address will have to be entered from the other end of the communication. But it keeps changing for most people, so you will have to look it up and call your friends with the current address your computer is using each time.

Also - you may need to set your DSL/Cable modem to :"pass thru" mode and also any routers on a home network may need to do the same or be removed for the requests to get in from the Internet to your computer web server or they will get blocked.

You can create a server, in the Full sense of the word, on your PC, or set up a Web style access to a portion of your PC through a Router. Alternatively, use the built in IIS 5.x on your PC, or buy version 6 or above of IIS and connect this to your page. You will need to set this up carefully since, if it is not done just right, the access will pull major resources from your CPU, not to mention memory , so if done right it will work as a back end to the main web area.

better idea take your computer out to the street and toss it into the traffic.. then in three days you will have the same amount of use availible to you ( none) ....... if you want to share your PC try using a program called MyPC or PC anywhere that way you control the acess.
