Population density of Bangladesh is about 3 (Three) times than that of Japan. Here are some other details collated from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:

Bangladesh (11)
Rank: 11th out of 230 Country or Region
Population: 141,822,300
Area (km²): 143,998
Density (Pop per km²): 985
Note: Latest figure from the World Bank Development Indicators Database is 1,090 per km²

Japan (30)
Rank: 30th out of 230 Country or Region
Population: 128,084,700
Area (km²): 377,873
Density (Pop per km²): 339

For humans, population density is the number of persons per unit of area (which may include or exclude cultivated or potentially productive area). Commonly this may be calculated for a county, city, country, another territory, or the entire world.

The world population is 6.5 billion humans, and Earth's area is 510 million square kilometers (200 million square miles). Therefore the world-wide human population density is 6.5 billion / 510 million = 13 per km² (33 per sq mi), or 43 per km² (112 per sq mi) considering that humans live on land, which forms 150 million km² (58 million sq mi) of the earth. This density rises with the population growth.

List of countries and dependencies by population density in inhabitants/km². The list includes de facto sovereign states and dependent territories that are recognized by the United Nations. The figures in the following table are based on areas including inland water bodies (lakes, reservoirs, rivers). Data is as of July 2005 and is taken from the United Nations World Populations Prospects Report (2004 revision).

Note that figures are simply estimates of population divided by total surface area and should not be considered either as reflecting density in the urban sense or as indicative of the ability of a territory’s land to support human habitation.

By the way, please compare these two countries:

India (31)
Rank: 31st out of 230 Country or Region
Population: 1,103,371,000
Area (km²): 3,287,263
Density (Pop per km²): 336

Pakistan (53)
Rank: 53rd out of 230 Country or Region
Population: 157,935,100
Area (km²): 796,095
Density (Pop per km²): 198

I think one of the factor is weather temperature. In a recent study it is observed that if the temperature goes low than there are more babies after a period of those low temperature times in North American part of world like Canada. Another factor is recession. Recession has made a lot of fertile human made to live at home and get more time for togetherness and plan for babies. So reverse of both conditions can be a right suggestion to your question.
