I didn't think so. The people are quite friendly.
If you are going there be sure to visit the Caracas Cathedral, It's on Plaza Bolívar.

Caracas well deserves its reputation as a dangerous city. The main tourist areas are generally safe during the day, but always be on your guard. Even residents do not go out alone in most neighborhoods after 9 PM, when muggings and other violent crimes are shockingly frequent. Taxis are the safest means of transportation after dark.

You should avoid showing off you wealth (Rolex, Jewelry etc.) and also not walk around alone in the dark, especially in Caracas. People also warned me to go to to Western Caracas on my own, it's dangerous cuz of the poverty there. Talking of poverty I wasn't confronted with it until I took the bus outside the city and when I looked outside the window i saw the 'barrios' - it looked unbelievable. There's such a big gap bewtween rich and poor. And I was a bit shocked about the indifference of the rich about this problem. They really don't seem to care at all. Mhh, well, but, yeah I know, that's like everywehre on planet earth, right? :(

Caracas is becoming a dangerous city but just like other cities in south america, if you go do not make yourself stick out like a sore thumb. Don't wear anything expensive, jewelry, watches, and dont act like a tourist. Don't walk around dark alley ways at night and just keep aware of your surroundings. Act like a normal person and you should be fine.

I went to Venezuela a few years ago but was advised by locals not to visit Caracas. There were over 40 murders the week before.I was also told that you could lose your money in taxis from the airport by the drivers pointing guns at you. This was about 5 years ago and I do not know the situation now but I would guess that its not completely safe even allowing for some improvement.
