perimeter - the outer limits of an area or a fortified strip or boundary usually protecting a military position.
periodontal - the ligaments encasing the teeth
sentient - experiencing or perception
sensuous - appealing to or gratifying the senses
sophistry - a plausible but misleading or fallacious argument

adversary - an enemy
auxiliary - helping or the troops supporting an army
cultivated - educated, polished, or produced
literalism - adherence to the explicit sense of a given text or doctrine or realism
sumptuous - luxuriant or lavish

i'm not too sure about these words but here's how i think they are paired up:

1. adversary (someone whose perceptions are opposing to yours) - perimeter (protection against enemy)
2. auxiliary (helping) - sensuous (gratifying senses)
3. cultivated (educated) - sentient (perception)
4. literalism (realism) - sophistry (plausible but misleading)
5. sumptuous (luxurious) - periodontal (gums - since both sumptuous and gums are related to food)

hope this helps. :)

Hmmm......
If you think really laterally, you might match sentient (responsive to sensitive stimulii,) and sumptous, (as in a sumptuous meal.)

PERIODONTAL, outer casing of teeth, or work on such, could this tie in with auxilary, in the sense of assisting?

A person who practices SOPHISTRY might be an adversary.

Sorry, even with the broadest lateral thinking, I can't match these.

I can't see any matches there.
Maybe sensuous and sumptuous could be a pair, but I can't make a match with the others. Are you sure that's all you have to choose from?
