The media regularly give girls and women the mixed message that they should consume many different kinds of "fattening" foods and that they should be thin to be considered beautiful. These conflicting messages are one reason for the high prevalence of eating disorders. Do you agree?

Yes.

Not to mention the mixed messages in clothing sizes. How can I be a size 8 and a size 13? Why cant they just use our measurements like the guys? Another conspiracy so that we have to stay in the mall for 6 hours looking for jeans, eating mall food, looking at advertisements and getting fatter!

I think all advertising gives mixed and confusing messages about a lot of things. They target the most vulnerable people. I really hate that sex is used in advertising everything from brushing your teeth to buying a car! But I do agree with you, they use a thin person to advertise high fat/calorie foods, doesn't even make sense! They give the subliminal message that you won't gain weight if you eat their product.

Not just eating disorders-just feeling good about who you are. I am sick to death of those thin celebrities and People Magazine glorifying them.I just saw a commercial for some diet pill recently that this woman loses like 100 lbs and she looks good but she says"and now I am a size 2"-she wasn't a size 2.Why is there so much emphasis on sizes? I wear what fits.

Eating disorders often having nothing to actually do with "food" - many, many times it's a form of severe control in the individual's who has an ED life, when they feel that much of the rest of their lives they have no control over. This is with Anorexia and Bulemia.

Binge Eating - without purging - that creates weight problems on the other end -- getting fat - that is about people stuffing themselves to numb themselves to other feelings they may have.

Yes!
It puts a lot of stress on people to take dieting to the extreme or having surgery to "solve" their problem.
