because the US is divided into 4 time zones, eastern/central/mountain/pacific

The broadcasting station broadcasts to two time zones, therefore two show start times are listed. I live in Central time zone, if I wanted to watch American Idol which airs at 8pm eastern time, that would actually be 7pm central time. Normally the broadcasting companies only air to 2 time zones at once, therefore they show only two separate start times instead of all four.

There are four time zones in the continental United States: Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific; most stations say 9/8c which means 9:00 p.m. Eastern and 8:00 p.m. Central; the Mountain Zone and Pacific Zone states get different promos.

because in america we have different time zones.

e.g 9/8c 9=east coast/west coast times and the c at the end of the 8 means "central.

The first time showed is "Eastern" Time, ,the 2d time showed (w/a lower case "c") is Central time, which is 1 hour behind. Hence the "9/8c".
