I opened up this package my sister sent me... I couldn't believe it -- it was full of brand new, full-sized NARS makeup! 6 beautiful items, from lipstick to eyeshadow to gloss to powder. Except when I opened them, I saw that they were all used! Not extensively, but enough so you could tell a finger or two had been dipped in there. So gross! I emailed my sister to ask where the makeup came from, and she said they were "free samples" but that she'd just had to try them before she mailed them out!
Normally I don't even test makeup in stores, because it grosses me out how many germs are on those things. Honestly, I don' know if i feel comfortable using this makeup now. And the whole thing actually made me feel really bad! Like I got all excited about a gift and then I couldn't even use it. So the containers are all sitting here taunting me but I don't feel comfortable. It's weird, it's definitely the germ factor... but also that the newness of my "gift" is gone.
How would you feel?

Well, here's the other tidbit of info... my sister gets cold sores (oral herpes), which I don't.

lol, to "iloveeeyore," she's definitely not *trying* to give me herpes... i just think she's oblivious to the rules of makeup hygiene. as strange as it may sound, i know my sister, and i don't think any of the consequences occurred to her (namely my extreme discomfort, which i would've had had it been *anyone's* fingers in there, and least of all, the herpes). mostly this is about me feeling bad and frustrated that i can't enjoy what would've otherwise been a fun gift. i was all excited to see what it was, but then i realized i couldn't use it. and i was just putting it out there to see if i was overreacting... now i feel better about my reaction. (but still bad about the makeup. sigh.)

Garbage next stop....This is really gross. I would be upset and my feelings would be hurt for sure. She definitely lack knowledge about microbes and hygiene. I am wondering if it is a passive agressive way to hurt your feelings, I hope not.
As far as how to talk to your sister, I think that being assertive is important. If you don't voice your feelings you will be stuck with this uneasy feeling for a long time. Maybe you could meet with your sister and say something positive about how you felt and then say something negative about how you felt. You could also play naive and educate her about the hygiene thing at the same time. Good luck!

It would depend on who programmed the robot and whether or not I could rewrite/modify any of the programs....:) I am intrigued by some of the early versions of robots I've seen. The toy robot pets, the robot vacuum cleaners, the creations at some of the science contests I've seen. So I might be game to give a person-sized robot a try....especially if I could be sure I could disable/turn-off the the thing when I wanted to. As far as being observed, we are pretty much observed remotely any time we are out in public-'security cameras' are now ubiquitous. Enter a store, use an ATM, park in a public or private parking lot, use a toll road.....we are filmed and possibly remotely observed doing all these things.

Hey, i no how horrid it feels getting a used gift, here's what i would do,get something flat, but strong, and take a layer off everything, so the used bit gets thrown off, and the rest is there. If u still don't feel comfortablewith the lip products, then throw them away, whatever u do, do not send them 2 somebody else, u'd make them get the feeling of a used gift! U seemed pretty concerned about health, if it's bugging u that much, just get rid of them, before u'll know it, u'll have alot 2 cover.Good luck choosing!

I would feel the same way. Obviously, she is trying to give you herpes. But honestly, even without the herpes, everyone knows you are not supposed to share makeup! Just don't use it and throw it out. If she asks about it, be honest, and tell her you weren't comfortable about used makeup. In the future, if she tries to give you makeup or something, be very careful

I think your additional info sums it up. Why would your, no offense, diseased sister use face products and then send it to you? Is she trying to infect you? This is a no brainer. Bugs in your lip gloss, or a fresh clean face? I think its pretty clear which is the better choice.

i'd feel pretty bad abt it too...but if its from my sister, i wouldnt mind as much. if its from a friend, i'd throw them out or give it to someone who wouldnt mind. maybe u can wipe them off if its eyeshadow. if its lipstick/gloss, just throw them out.
