By doing exactly that which a superstition would prohibit you from doing.

a.) Before coming out of your house, make sure a black cat is crossing your path.

b.) Make a point to irritate one of your family members' nose with a little bit of chili powder and as they are about to sneeze embark on an important job.

c.) Postponse all visits to the hair stylist /beautician till Saturday.

d.) Stimulate the muscles surrounding the eye socket via low intensity electric stimulation. Once the muscles are twitching, go and engage in your day to day business as usual.

e.) Trim your nails on Saturdays.

f.) Make a point to eat directly from the utensil that you use to cook your food in. [This has been a fool proof method of ensuring that it will rain heavily during your marriage]

So, make sure you engage in these maneauvres and you may actually be doing something about superstitions.

Think of a superstition as being akin to a scientific theory, a supposition or prepatory idea.

As such, for a superstition to remain 'valid' it must be proven. Therefore, the best way to 'stop' the creation of superstitions is to explore their validity. Does stepping on a crack break your mother's back?

Also, it is helpful to remember that superstitions change and evolve. Some are held simply as 'quaint' relics of history (throwing salt over one's shoulder), and some have practical applications that go beyond their symbolism (walking under a ladder is always a bad idea, and depending on what kind of mirror one breaks, it COULD be very bad luck to break it). Just because one is superstitious does not, ipso facto, make one wrong. Each must be evaluated upon its own merits.

Superstitions and wives tales.

Some are true if you look at them with an broad mind.

For Example: Like don't walk under a ladder, bad luck will befall you.
Logic: don't walk under a ladder, something or someone could fall on you .. workers are up there.. don't knock the ladder.. etc.

So superstitions and wives tales can be taken with a pinch of salt.
Look at logic and use your broad mind to see the truth.
take care and be well.

Lot of superstitions have science and observation behind them. Even science can't explain some of the natural phenominon. So, one has to be bit careful in understanding what is superstition and what is science.

Superstition can never be stopped.
It is the precursor to all religions and it will continue to be a part of mankind until he goes out of existence.

By strictly believing the truth, which has physical evidence. Not to quote even the bible or quran or geeta or any other holy book. Only the truth is the truth and all assumptions, and bodies built on assumptions are all untrue and cannot withstand the test of time. The holy books are written by poets who exaggerate and use contemporary language of their times, and mean other than what they appear to mean, and have different face value.

Education seems the correct path, there are many highly educated people who are really superstitious. I think the solution has to be a method of teaching which not only teaches scientific theories but also infuse scientific outlook in the pupil's mindset.

It's hard to stop culture especially something that is part of tradition. But the best way could be debunking it. Something akin to Discovery's Mythbusters.
