No: no government (or government surrogate) should ever step in and stop a program being broadcast.

However channel 4 is a commercial organistion, it only puts on programs that are cost effective.

BB is realtively cheap, its attracts income form advertisers and people phoning in. if people didnt phone in revenue will drop, if people dont wathc advertising will drop.

There are already suggestions that Carphone Warehouse are reconsidering their sponsorship, there are signs that advertisers are worried. Although the 25% increase in audience figures since the racisism/bullying row burrst on the scene isnt going to be that much of a deterrent.

So in short if you think Big Brother shouldn't be broadcast then dont watch it, encourage like minded friedns and realtive mnot to watch it, dont talk about it.

Although I dont watch it I think this program may actually do this country a favour. Its showing how incredibly stupid, ignorant, unfeeling and dumb some people in this country are. After years of being told how wonderfull our education system is, of how grades are improving, its showing up that many people are leaving school essentially dumb, unable to speak properly, unable to do basic maths (the FSA wants to introduce a traffic light scheme because it thinks around 50% (sorry half) of the population is unable to understand percentages.

I don't think ch4 should stop making or broadcasting the programme at all-i do however think they should stop trawling rundown council estates for bozo contestants who want their '15 minutes' of fame...or "celebrity's", who are so far up their own a$$e'$ most of the time that they think they are on another, more celestial planet than the rest of us! Get some older people in there, 40-50 plusses, see how they get on with participating-see what life skills and experiences they could bring to the house...ch4 is in a winwin situation with this show-i only wish they would try differing formats, differing age groups-(how about a "kid brother" type show, for youngsters as an example!)-there are lots of ideas the programme planners could try but don't...but no, it shouldn't be stopped.

Why stop at celeb BB? Stop broadcasting any programme with Celeb in its title!

Except for a new show 'Celeb shoot out', put them all on an island with unlimited armaments, only rule is that just one person gets of the island alive.

They should've stopped it years ago. But as far as the current debacle (1 celebrity (not known in the UK), a handful of past celebrities (not heard since 1984) and some idiots with no class) I think the Bollywood star and J Jackson should be given weapons in a Battle Royale stylee - giving them the chance to improve the world by killing the Goody clan

Channel 4 are only keeping it going for the money. They used to edit out the bad bits, or put "silence" over the bad bits, but this doesn't seem to happen now. Jade hasn't even been pulled into the diary room to be reprimanded, which I think is wrong.

It was time to do that after the first one, as it is nothing more than rubbish. But if people want to watch and therefore demand this rubbish, they have to put up with it. Storm in a teacup....
