The only safe sex is to not have it! Charting your ovulation and only having sex when it is so called "safe" is really ineffective. My friend is testiment to that. The safest is taking the pill or using condoms.

Safe sex means to protect against diseases and pregnancy. I think that people today are more worried about pregnancy than killing yourself and others. IF you are in a meaningful relationship then your partner should want both of you to protect yourselves. Trust me, people cheat, even the ones we are deeply in love with. Before you risk your life and stop using protection, both you and your partner should go get tested for everything under the sun together. AIDS does not discriminate. While your at the doctor if you really want to learn about the rhythm method then go ahead, but pregnancy is always a risk, because our bodies are always changing...no 100% on this one.

This is called Natural Family Planning or the Rhythm Method. Basically, you are supposed to chart your temperature, your cervical mucus and cervical position every day of the month to see when you are most fertile. Then you are supposed to avoid sex with your partner about 5 days before ovulation and a couple days after ovulation.

it would be easy if you have regular menstruation. if your cycle is every 28 days (the usual regular menstruation cycle), and the onset of your period is for example, 1st day of the month, your ovulation period (the days you'll get pregnant) is from the 9th to 18th of the month. so, you'll be safe till 8th and days after the 18th, which are the days before your next period. if your period falls on the 2nd day of the month, then, 10 -19 would be safe and so on...
