I have two documented direct ancestors that paid the ultimate price during the Civil War, when they gave their lives to end slavery.

Are there any blacks that would be willing to pay reparation to the decedents of the men that died for their freedom? It seems their sacrifice has been all but forgotten in this debate.

The reparation debt owed to slaves was paid a long time ago when hundreds of thousands of men died winning the Civil War, and the freedom of slaves.

Reparations, to me, would be giving a minority man or woman a high-powered position that pays a lot of money...oh, maybe something like President of the United States. Since everyone knows that blacks and whites have to drink out of separate water fountains, and blacks aren't allowed to eat at lunch counters, live in the same neighborhoods as white people...we probably won't ever see that happen, though... Oh, wait...for a moment I thought I was living 60 years ago.

Why do we blame only the white man for slavery? The truth is that those people were sold into slavery by their own families and tribes. If reparations should be made, shouldn't they be made by the people who sold them into slavery?

Slavery was a mistake made by people many years ago and the people who were the victims are long dead. Paying reparations to the blacks of today is in no way justified.

Honesty no. Only reason is because its way past too late man. I mean it would be nice but its just too far in the past. Plus I dont want a f*ckn mule. But what would be nice is if white people would stop acting like rascim in America is no longer an issue! yay! thumbs up!

I think it's time to move on past this. Most of the people who were slaves or had slaves are dead. This is a new generation and people should get on with their lives instead of feeling like they are owed something.

I think we've made reparations over and over again. At what point will the past be the past and we won't have to continue giving more and more to make up for something we can't change.

We can't. The wrongs that our forefathers committed can never be righted - no matter how much we want to erase that part of our history. It happened. It's over. Move on.

Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed, to me:
I lift my lamp beside the golden door.

Does this mean nothing to anyone any more?
