my friend was saying that when one parent is of mixed race descent ie black parent + white parent, white parent + white parent, mixed race + white parent could the child pop out black or would it be progresivly lighter?

I thought it would be progresivly lighter and lighter through the generations? who's right?

Hi
Yes it can happen, it's just about what genes the baby inherits. Usually the children will get progressively lighter through the generations but there have been many cases where the baby comes out different to expected! There was a Black couple who had White twins! That was genes from many generations past, so it is unlikely, but can happen. I am White, and have two children of dual heritage from my partner who is Black. My son is very dark, with dark brown eyes, whereas my daughter has lighter skin than me, she is very pale and green eyes! Although she does have Black features and afro hair! People didn't believe she was my boyfriends until she was about two when her hair grew and her features showed properly. It really does just depend.

OK heres the facts... If a mixedrace girl and a white boy had a child, that child would look white. Its a fact I can promise u that. No it wouldnt pop out lookin black bcus its not possible specially when the fathers white...can white men have black babies? no they cant. If the boy was mixedrace n the girl was white then the baby mite look more exotic and could proberly pass for a hispanic. Fact is it depends on how the mixedrace person looks. i.e face features, hair texture n lightness of the skin.

Yes, and it can happen the other way around as well. I have a friend whose parents are both black, her sisters are black, but she's pretty much white, with more western features than the rest of her family. Her great great grandfather was white.

The baby is never fully black, but could be darker then what they expect. I have a laugh about it now as I have a mixed race son and if he meets a white partner and they have a kids and then they have white kids, etc, etc. One day they will get a big surprise when they see their great great great great grandad Mickey. :)

I had a friend who looked white but her brother looked black, because their perents were mixed rac and one child took after the father and the other took after the mother. When she had a baby, the baby was brown although the father was white. Its the same with ginger hair and blue eyes it's regressive.

It is possible just depends on the genes...more likely that it would be white with black features like Jade Goody whos father is mixed race and mum is white.

Your friend is right. It depends what genes are passed on. I have mixed race cousins, 3 brothers & they are all different regarding skin colour. Think about the genes as a deck of cards, when you shuffle you never get the same hand twice

Not very long ago there was a press report when a white woman with a black partner gave birth to twins, one was totally white and the other was totally black. Needless to say they were not identical twins.

I would expect that the child would be lighter, and highly suspicious if a much darker child "popped out".
