We got contacted by N Power (our gas and electric supplier) in november to say that british gas were trying to take over as our electric supplier! We hadnt signed anything or agreed to anything, now n power have contacted us saying they cant get us back with them because british gas say we owe them money. Can british gas do this without us even ever agreeing to us them, can we seek legal advice?

The first step is to contact British Gas. Energywatch won't investigate your complaint until you have attempted to resolve your problem with the company first.

Call them and advise them you never agreed a contract to switch, you should be passed to the energy sales complaints team (sometime known as energy customer liason team) who will take the details. Your complaint will then be investigated, if they cannot find evidence you agreed to the switch they will contact nPower and return your account to them.

If after the investigation they refuse to return the account to nPower, then you can contact energywatch who will look into it for you.

Good luck!

If you haven't signed anything NO - there is no contract in force!

In fact you may be able to claim against British Gas for the cost of gas used - these two people are mangers for the Midlands Area and based in Leicestershire! Email them and ask them for the Supply/Service Managers email and phone number for your area! Then start jumping up and down! Brit Gas have done this before and got blasted by the watchdog!

This happened to my elderly mother. It is done by rogue reps who sign the forms on your behalf to get commission. Contact Energy Watch & complain to them.

DO NOT go with British Gas!!!!
They are total cr?p.
Their customer care is a total joke!

They can't. Ask then to see the paper work that you signed.

Some unscrupulous selling agents have been known to fill in the forms and send them through with a fake signature.

That is illegal. You can contact a solicitor, but I would also call their regulator, OFGEM.
