you have to run wireless network setup wizard
follow the instructions ,

when done open network connections right click
then click properties then tcp/ip click properties again
specify your own ip and domain
on both computers
say on 1 one ip 1.2.3.4
domain 1.1.1.1
say on 2 1.2.3.5

Go to your my computer icon and right click. Select properties and open the computer name tab. down at the bottom where it says change computer name or join a domain click that. Go down to the bottom of that and select work group. Make up a name for your workgroup. Go to your second pc and repeat the process, using the same workgroup name. Then share the folders you want to share using the a previous person instructions.

Have to put the files you want to access into a shared folder, or make the folders you want shared... right click on them, and one of the options should be "sharing..."

there really is an adhoc (no wireless AP required) solution. u might need to give it a try urself. go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/bowman_02april08.mspx it claims this works.

i have never tried it but that is probably bcos i have never needed to.
