The United States is a large, developed economy with diversified industries and a substantial system of financial institutions.

Venezuela has a lot of oil. That's all.

But even in terms of oil revenue, Venezuela doesn't come near competing with the US. The United States produces 4 million barrels a day more oil than Venezuela. The United States even has more oil reserves than Venezuela, almost double Venezuela's.

The economy of the United States is simply too substantial for one resource to compete with. Multinational companies based in the US produce products sold the world over. There's a reason why everyone wants to be able to sell their goods to the United States. Because they know the US has the money to buy them. Our large public debt is funded by other countries. Why? Because US public treasury bonds are the safest place to put your money. The US is the richest country in the world.

BUT not for long with the irresponsible globalization. Venezuela has actually been making some recent changes that are going to result in them being a major global competitor in the not too distinct future.
