We've already had females running for president.
Asia has had a half dozen countries with female leaders (4 or 5 are in office right now). Germany has a female prime minister, Britain had Margaret Thatcher in the 80's.
Looks like the US is behind the times. The problem is that no quality female has ever run for the office. Condoleeza Rice might be the first.
At the moment, there are also no credible black candidates. We will always have Al Sharpton on the ticket, and this time around we might get Barak Obama. Neither of them are worthy of the office. Al Sharpton is a felon and Barak needs at least another 10-15 years in politics--he's too green.
The best (minority) candidate for 2008 right now is Gov. Richardson of New Mexico (hispanic). He might do well.
Having a female or a minority in office would normally be a demonstration that there is no ceiling in America, glass or otherwise, and that anyone can be anything they chose as long as they're willing to work for it. If there are any minorities in the US still discouraged and not trying, this might be the inspiration they need.
I would never vote for anyone on those grounds alone, but I recognize the value.

I hope so and I do hope that pigs begin to fly if they wish. It is high time for either a black or a woman. I am not sure it should be Hillary but I would love to see one as pres. Better yet a black woman but not Rice. I think Oprah would be good. Of course, needless to say that after George boy Anyone would be good.

We could get a Black president, a woman president, a Jewish president, an Hispanic president, a Native American president--or any type of president we've never had before in the US.
(Getting JFK in the 1960s was a first--no president before him was a Catholic--and no president since him, either).
As far as I am concerned, my vote goes to the best person--the person most for peace--the person who comes out looking most sane.

why will they change for the good?
i thought everyone is equal and no one sees the colour so to me it never cropped up that there has never been a black president or a woman.
why should we eagerly want a black president if we are all equal and all the same?? positive discrimination is jsut as bad
let the wisest american citizen be the next president!

Obama, if that's who you refer to, has a black father and a white mother. In his case, I'd say he's color neutral. What matters is what kind of person he is and will he be good presidential material.

Well I am assuming you are referring to Obama.
So the next question is how to you define black? Is it by looks? Because he is half white.

Not this round unless Condoleeza Rice runs... Obama probably will not make it past the primary.
