Some of the ones I have been too seem to have no motivation to find their clients jobs, which is why I am curious to know if they get paid commission or just straight salary. Also, is there any recourse if you think your recruiter is not doing his/her best to find you a job?

Generally, recruitment is a hard sales business rather than a service. Cold calls are used to get clients interested in candidates, pitches are used to get on a preferred suppliers list for handling recruitment for a company.

Specialist agencies often have a closer relationship with the clients and will be able to help you into a role more quickly than others. Some large agencies also run training and coaching to make you more employable. If you respond to a large campaign for one client, the agency might be on a retained fee and be more interested in quality candidates. For others, it might be purely on commission so they'll dump your resume in front of as many people as possible to close a sale. If it doesn't work, they are likely to move on to other candidates.

If you find that you are being sent the wrong kind of opportunities or your agent is not enthusiastic, you have only one recourse - change the agent. That's either a new firm or a chat with their supervisor.

Good luck.

The answer varies depending on the firm you are using, & also how the employer is paying the temp firm.

My advice if you aren't getting calls returned same day, or being kept aware of job possibilities is to go elsewhere.

I called two firms when I was looking. One was fairly unresponsive, the other ,Randstad had me come in the day after I called, & I had a job offer exactly one week later . Good Luck!!

Usually, but it comes straight from the hiring company, and not your paycheck.
