I am certain it could be done but check with a dealer as to the weight the vehicle is capable of pulling.

Overload it and you might end up stuck somewhere with a transmission that gave up the ghost....

Yes that is possible.

My question is this. Is the trailer that heavy you need electric brakes? Or does the trailer have electric brakes and you just want to make use of them?

A windstar is a front wheel drive vehicle and I show it having a towing capacity of 3500 lbs. Being front wheel drive you need to really REALLY pay attention to tounge weight (the amount of weight that is pressing down on the hitch when the trailer is level)

The other thing you need to consider is that most of Ford's front wheel drive transmissions are not exactly bulletproof. You might want to get the transmission checked at a shop and serviced before you start pulling trailers.

Good luck

Yes. You can look in the phone book. Also, call some of the U-Haul places, some sell and/or install hitches. IF, you can get one and install it yourself you can save a few bucks. I installed "Drawtight" brands years ago, real easy, if you have a drill and a few good Bits. Hold the Hitch in place and mark where the holes go. Then look to be sure there no wires in the way. Drill a small pilot hole then the main hole. Now, some holes may be in the Chassis, take a small wire and enter through the hole and work it where there a big hole from the factory. Wrap the wire into the threads of the Bolt (It need to go in the threads best you can, or it may not fit through your bolt hole when wrapped on the bolt). Then just pull the bolt through your hole. Have them all in place, lift the hitch up and put on the nuts with lock washers and maybe a little lock-tight too. I had a 1966 Mustang and put a Hitch on it, I towed my flat bottom fishing boat, but, never a real heavy boat/trailer.

wow no one bothered to ask what size trailer ur gonna be using look if ur going light, like a travel trailer than why not but don't use a trailer of significant weight also why the electric brake ? or is that already on the trailer ? if so than it may be too big of a trailer id wouldn't if it is large enough to need electric brakes

you sure can but better bring a bucket though, your transmission will fly apart pulling allot of weight, and i don't need a flat so when you do please pick up all the parts and put them in the bucket,,,,,,,,,windstars have a weak transmission
