I've had this problem my whole life. My birth certificate is spelled "Amy" and my social security card is spelled "Aimmie"... the way it was supposed to be... everything was okay until I turned 18. It does bring up some complications with the DMV, credit bureaus, bills, etc... Doesn't sound serious, but even when I was applying to colleges I ran into some issues with the difference in the spellings of my names on certain papers, etc... I'd just stick with your original spelling if I were you, especially if you're trying to build your credit up, just in case.

The name itself can make a difference in how people see you. With many people who don't like their names they simply adopt a nick name. I don't think changing the spelling will have much affect how people see you.
