I am having trouble understanding the exponents here
first I have .........
What expression raised to the fourth power is
81x^12 y^8 z^16?

also I am struggling on find the values of the follwoing polynomials
-x^2-5x-6x, when x=-3 and x=-2?
I do not get this do I plug the given values into the equation and then solve from there? Please help me.

In the first problem, you have four things multiplied together. Each of them is something to the power of 4.

81 is 3 to the power of 4
y^8 is something else to the power of 4. To figure out what, remember what power means.

y^8 means y.y.y.y.y.y.y.y

(The dot here means multiply.)

So if we group this into four groups, we have:

y.y times y.y times y.y times y.y

which is "y.y" to the power of 4

That's y².

You can do the same for the other ones.

In the second problem, just replace x by -3 in the expression and see what it works out as. Then do the same replacing x with -2.

Exponents

If you have y^4, this is y raised to the power of 4

if you have y^8, this is y^2 raised to the power of 4. Remember that the property is: (z^b)^c = z^ (bc), you multiply the exponents

So, in your example, observe that the exponents are:
81 = 3^4
x^12 = x^(3*4)
y^8 (I already explained this one)
z^16= z^(4*4)

So, can you now find it on your own? If you cant, write to me

Polynomials

Yes, you have to plug these values, but these are 2 different exercises. Plug first x=3 and evaluate. Then you will have your first result. Then plug x=2 in the original expression and do the same

81 x^12 y^8 z^16 = (3^4) x^12 y^8 z^16

Take the fourth root.

{(3^4)x^12 y^8 z^16}^(1/4) = ±3 x^3 y^2 z^4
raised to the fourth power equals the above

3x^3 y^2 z^4

when x = -3, the answer is 24
when x = -2, the answer is 14
