Human rights and dignity say that you are your own person regardless of your culture or background.

You are an individual not a robot , if you are in a traditional family and you want to break free that can be a big problem and quite often can cause great trouble in families.

Perhaps you should try and get a job away from them in another city or if you are young enough try to find a college or university away from your family.

That way you have a legitamate claim to be free without upsetting everyone.

Good Luck and I hope you find a good partner if that is what you want

It is your right to choose as well as it is your right to say no to your family for wanting to choose for you. Traditionally it involves the whole family, uncles and grand parents but it really is not their business to interfere. It is time for our Indian young ladies to be assertive and voice their opinion. You have the choice to decide whom, where and when you want to marry. A little bit of advice, though. Do not choose someone just to get away from your family. But choose him because he is the best one for you.
Good luck

Your culture says no. I think that this is wrong. Everyone has a right to their own thoughts and own life as long as it hurts no one. Who you marry is your business and no one elses. Marriage is a life long commitment, not a business arraignment.
